Fancy A Brew?

We are very excited to have our first event here in our beautiful new Islington site- a launch of a very unique beer in collaboration with Melissa Cole (Author of ‘Let me tell you about beer‘), Outlaw Brewing Co and tea merchants, Taylors of Harrogate.

After a few years of inactivity, Outlaw Brewing Co., under the new ownership of Ian, Tom and Oliver Fozard, is set to make a return in the shape of Mad Hatter, a limited edition Jasmine Green Tea India Pale Ale (IPA). Mad Hatter (Alc. 6.2% Vol.) is a double collaboration, brewed with Melissa Cole, a prominent beer writer and also Taylors of Harrogate, a family-owned and nationally recognised tea and coffee merchant whose tea has been especially selected for the brew, with the guidance of Ian Brabbin, Taylors’ Head of Tea.

Outlaw Brewing Co. was established in 1996 as a concept to run alongside Rooster’s Brewing Co., with the emphasis on producing experimental and innovative beers on an ad hoc basis. Over the years a number of different beers have been brewed using new and rare hops, adjunct flavours and experimentation with barrel-ageing (amongst other things).

Tom Fozard, Rooster’s, Commercial Manager comments: “Over the past year, plenty of customers and brewers alike have been asking us about the return of Outlaw. It’s a brand that is synonymous with experimenting with all kinds of beer styles and flavours and it’s good to have it back!”

Head Brewer, Oliver Fozard adds: “When Melissa approached us to brew a beer together, I was flattered that she wished to work with us. We talked about what we could source locally, to use in a beer and built the style around that. The selection and use of hops was key to complimenting the floral notes of the Jasmine Green Tea.”

Melissa Cole adds: “As a Rooster’s beer was one of my ‘epiphany ales’, I’m absolutely thrilled to be working with the Fozards to create something that’s full of exciting aromas and flavours but still accessible and balanced, which I think is absolutely key to any great beer and in the tradition of the Rooster’s and Outlaw brands.”

Ian Brabbin comments: ”I have really enjoyed working with Tom & Oliver on the creation of this new beer. We tasted different teas together in our tasting room in Harrogate and selected a high quality Chinese Jasmine Leaf tea for Mad Hatter.

The new branding for Outlaw has been created by The Lift Agency; a Harrogate-based design company who also worked on the rebranding of Rooster’s earlier this year, whilst the artwork for the Mad Hatter pump clip is the work of Tom Cutting, a local designer and friend of the Brewery. Each new, limited edition Outlaw beer brewed in future will also sport a new piece of artwork that will have been especially commissioned for the beer in question, with plans for more one-off beers to be brewed in 2013 and beyond.

We are delighted to be launching this exciting beer in our Islington pub and hope to see you there for a brew!
